The Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department will perform plan reviews and inspections on new construction projects including fire suppression systems and fire alarm systems.

Site Plan Review Application...
Fire department site plan review is done at no charge as a courtesy for the designers of proposed new developments within the townships of Grand Traverse County. Some township planning ordinances require that a fire department review of proposed projects be done and review comments be submitted to the township Planner.
The Site Application Form is used for the submittal of site plans to the Fire Prevention Bureau for review and comment. Reviews and comments are sent to the applicant as well as to the Planner for the applicable township. When submitting this application it must be accompanied by one set of DETAILED site drawings(printed or electronic) and any descriptive information available regarding the scope of the project. Site plan review will take approximately 10 working days from the date of plans submission to this office.
Building Plan Review Application...
Fire department building plan review is required by the Fire Prevention Ordinance adopted in each Township for all types of new construction except one and two-family dwellings and agricultural structures. A fee is invoiced to the applicant for the plan review, permit issuance and two inspections of the project. This fee is set by the Ordinance Fee Structure and is based on a cost per square foot of the building. An application for permit and plan review, along with one COMPLETE set of plans and specifications, must be submitted prior to issuance of a building permit by the construction codes office.
Effective January 1, 2009, the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department will accept electronic submissions of blueprints, plans, specifications, etc. that are submitted for fire department plans review and permit application.
Submissions must be in PDF format only. Large files (5mb or larger) must be submitted on compact disk or DVD.
PRINTED MATERIALS WILL BE ACCEPTED, IF NECESSARY, BUT WILL BE CONVERTED INTO ELECTRONIC FILES AND PRINT MATERIALS WILL BE DESTROYED.
Electronic submissions may be made directly to the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department by email (small files only- less than 5mb)- info@gtmetrofire.org; or by dropping off at our office on CD or DVD or via USPS or other shipping method. All submissions shall include an application for plan review.

Special Event Plan Review / Permit Application
The Special Event Plan Review and Permit Application is used for the submittal of special events to the Fire Prevention Bureau for review and comment.
