Captain Troy Holliday
Captain Troy Holliday has been with the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department since he joined as a Fire Explorer in 1989 at the age of 16. Becoming a regular member of the department in 1991, Troy started his education at Lansing Community College in the Fire Science Academy and became a licensed Emergency Medical Technician, then moving up in the ranks as a volunteer officer. In 2000, Troy was hired full-time as a Fire Inspector in our Fire Prevention Bureau where he was responsible for code enforcement of commercial properties in our jurisdiction.
During the next five years, Troy held the rank as a volunteer Assistant Chief at Station 11, became a certified inspector through NFPA and State of Michigan, a certified fire instructor through the Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council, an Emergency Response to Terrorism instructor, and completed his Fire Officer III courses. In 2005, a Systems Administrator position was created for Troy where he was responsible for implementation of numerous reporting programs, accountability programs, and a multitude of tasks assigned by the Chief.
Troy also became the only certified child passenger safety seat technician in GT Metro Fire Dept. Making sure our children are safe, one seat at a time! As our department evolves, Troy was promoted to a full-time Captain position in 2008 and is currently assigned to Station 8 in Acme Township while he continues to handle the Systems Administrator position. In August 2009, Troy will finish his class to become a Hazardous Materials Technician for the department.
